The ladle purging plug is the most critical functional element in the secondary refining process, and its main functions are as follows: (1) The uniform distribution of molten steel temperature in the ladle can be adjusted to achieve the best casting temperature in the existing process. (3) The non-metallic inclusions in the molten steel can be brought into the slag to meet the cleanliness requirements of the molten steel. In order to realize the above functions, it is necessary to blow the inert gas used for refining into the ladle through the purging plug. On the contact surface of the air-permeable brick and the molten steel, that is, the working surface of the air-permeable brick, under sufficient pressure, a large number of blown bubbles form a gas jet. It stirs the molten steel in the whole ladle, promotes the molten steel to flow, and makes the temperature and composition in the ladle uniform. At the same time, the continuously ejected bubbles bring the non-metallic inclusions in the molten steel into the slag under the action of the interface, so as to achieve clean molten steel.

(1) Good air permeability. Breathability is one of the important parameters to measure the quality of purging plug. The research shows that the stirring energy of molten steel is proportional to the flow rate of the injected gas; stirring can directly affect the stirring efficiency of molten steel, and only sufficient stirring energy can make the molten steel have a good stirring effect. When the amount of argon blowing is constant, the more argon bubbles are blown out, the better it is for the degassing and stirring of molten steel.

(2) High temperature corrosion resistance. Refining ladle is very strict in terms of temperature and time, the highest temperature often reaches above 1750 ℃, and the refining time sometimes reaches tens of minutes. During the refining operation, the slag alkalinity has a great influence on the life of the purging plug. Therefore, the purging plug will be eroded by the alkaline slag with strong permeability at high temperature, and the damage speed is fast.

(3) High temperature wear resistance. When argon is blown at the bottom of the refining ladle, due to the bottom blowing of argon, the flow rate of molten steel in the ladle is very fast, and the erosion and wear of molten steel on the furnace lining material and the purging plug bricks and well block are significantly increased. When the ladle is hot repaired, in order to remove the residual steel and slag on the surface of the purging plug and restore the breathable function of the purging plug, it is necessary to clean the surface of the purging plug with oxygen blowing to melt the steel slag adhered to the surface of the purging plug; gas to blow away the slag. During the cleaning process, the purging plug are scoured by high-speed airflow, so the purging plug are required to have good high temperature wear resistance.

(4) Good thermal shock resistance. Due to the intermittent operation of the ladle, when the ladle is poured into molten steel, the end of the purging plug is subjected to the action of the high-temperature molten steel, and the temperature rises suddenly. At the same time, when molten steel is injected into the empty ladle, a large temperature change will also occur, so the use conditions of the purging plug are very harsh, and it is very easy to produce thermal spalling and structural spalling.

(5) It is required to be easy to install, safe and reliable. The purging plug is installed inside the base brick at the bottom of the ladle, and the working conditions are extremely harsh. The life of the ladle purging plug cannot be synchronized with the life of the entire ladle, so the purging plug needs to be replaced. Therefore, it is required that the installation and operation are simple, the use is safe and reliable, and the occurrence of steel leakage and leakage events is avoided.
